The DP4800e is one of Motorola most advanced digital radios. Designed for use in a variety of hard-warring environments, the DP4800e is both rugged and reliable having been built to IP68 protection rating. This rating ensures that not only is the radio completely safeguarded against dust intrusion, but is also fully submersible in water for extended periods of time. Alongside its Ingres rating, the DP4800e has also been tested to military specifications, these testing the radios reliability in a variety of both environmental conditions and temperatures.
A channel capacity of 1000 is more than sufficient for large scaled operations. Channels can be split into zones to give different sectors of your business their own private channels, this ensuring that channels don't become blocked by non-relevant transmissions. The faceplate of the DP4800e has both a 5-Line coloured display alongside a full keypad. These two features allow for the user to navigate menus, send text messages or even make individual calls to other radios in order to keep a conversation private. Both text messaging and private conversations are a benefit of digital signaling, alongside the main factor of switching to digital which is superior audio quality over an analogue radio. Although the DP4800e is a digital radio it is also capable of being programmed to analogue frequencies, this will allow for older radios to remain in circulation should there be no need to replace them.
There are many safety features that the DP4800e has to ensure that workers in dangerous environments stay safe. An emergency button can be programmed to the radio to allow for fast response from workers should an issue arise, should a radio user press this button an alert will be sent to other users within the network to let them know that someone could have a safety or security issue. Alongside the emergency button, the Lone Worker feature can also be programmed into the radio to monitor its activity levels. Should the radio not be used for a pre-set period of time a beep will sound, if a button is not pressed after this beep then an alert will be sent to other radios within the network to notify them that this operative may be in trouble.
There are many other features pre-installed onto the DP4800e. VOX Voice Activation allows for hands free communication when using the radio, transmit interrupt allows for a message to be instantly broadcast to all radios on the network, in case of emergency or should something need to be relayed to the entire workforce this function will interrupt all communications.

Motorola DP4800e Features Explained
Taken from our knowledge base, we explain each feature of the Motorola DP4800e.
Two Way Radio GPS
Know where your team are, all of the time!
GPS (global positioning system) is a mechanism which a device can use a number of in-range satellites to triangulate it's position and transmit that position back to the repeater or base station. This enables the supervisor to more effectively manage team members by knowing their current location.
For more information on GPS, download this Motorola GPS information sheet.
GPS is designed for outdoor tracking. See "Indoor tracking" for indoor solutions.
Read more about Two Way Radio GPS in our Knowledge Base.
Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA)
TDMA is a technology that allows several users to share the same frequency channel by dividing the signal into different time slots. With DMR this is two time slots to every 12.5KHz frequency channel allocation.
Before DMR every 12.5KHz frequency allocation could carry just one broadcast of RF traffic. Now with DMR 12.5KHz bandwidth allows two voice channels.
See the video for an explanation on how this works.
Read more about TDMA in our Knowledge Base.
Two Way Radio Transmit Interrupt
Transmit interrupt ensures that critical message gets through.
Transmit interrupt allows for a priority message to be sent to all radios within your network. Interrupting all ongoing conversations, this feature is commonly used in emergency situations or as a way to offer new instructions to workers.
When purchasing two way radios you can choose to only have this feature programmed to radios that will be used by senior members of staff. This minimizes the potential for it to be abused by workers, meaning that should it ever need to be used all members of staff will be aware of its importance.
Read more about Transmit Interrupt in our Knowledge Base.
Digital Basic Privacy
Digital Basic Privacy ensures that any communications made using your two way radios are protected against the potential for eavesdropping. Although this level of protection is very basic it still offers a degree of protection against your communications being listened in on by unwelcome parties.
Basic Privacy uses a fixed key which is set when the radio is programmed. There are 255 potential keys to be chosen from, this meaning that this is still a fairly simple privacy option for your devices. In order for an eavesdropper to listen in to your conversations they would require your exact frequencies, whilst also knowing the exact key that you have used for privacy.
The main reason for purchasing licensed two way radios is the privacy that they offer over license exempt devices. When communicating in work environments where there is the potential for sensitive information to be passed over the airwaves, having at least a basic level of privacy ensures that due diligence has been taken to keep work communications in house.
Read more about Privacy & Encryption in our Knowledge Base.
Lone Worker
Lone Worker is a feature found on many two way radios where it's able to send a pre-determined signal, for example a distress call or alarm, to other radios in range, Lone Worker requires some type of interaction from the radio user after a period of radio inactivity.
An example of this is the radio can be set to require the radio operator to interact with his or her radio once every 30 minutes. If they fail to do so, their radio will start making an audible sound. If there is still no interaction with his or her radio within 1 further minute, a alarm will sound to other team members to tell them a team member is not responding to Lone Worker.
The supervisor can then dispatch another team member to the non-response team member's last known location to offer assistance.
Read more about Lone Worker in our Knowledge Base.
Voice Activation (VOX)
VOX (voice-operated exchange), more commonly known as Voice Activation, allows the two way radio's microphone and PTT button to be activated by simply speaking into the radio.
How To Use VOX
Most two way radios' voice activation feature only works via an external VOX capable earpiece or headset. Once connected, you simply start speaking and the two way radio will automatically initiate the transmission. When there is no longer any audio coming via your earpiece or headset, the two way radio automatically disengages the PTT.
Activating VOX
Most business grade licence exempt two way radios allow activating the voice activation feature via a button combination on the radio; or by simply plugging in a vox capable earpiece or headset. However, some more complex two way radios, such as our licensed two way radios will require some reprogramming.
VOX Drawbacks
Since VOX works by listening out for audio via the attached accessory, background noise that's near to the sound of a human voice will also activate it. That means practically anything can activate the voice activation.
Read more about Voice Activation (VOX) in our Knowledge Base.
Voice Announcement
Voice announcement, also known as voice prompts, is a feature where the two way radio announces the status of the two way radio. Information such as on/off status of features and the currently selected channel can be announced.
Most two way radios that support voice announcements have built in audio files which provide the most popular announcements such as channels numbers and specific features such as low and high power.
More advanced two way radios allow a customised audio file to be uploaded and used instead of the default files. This is useful for giving channels specific names. Example, channel 1 can be called "Operations", channel 2 "Cleaning Team", and so on.
Read more about Voice Announcement in our Knowledge Base.
Capacity Plus
Capacity plus is a quasi-trunking solutions that uses DMR TDMA time slot technology to mimic trunking technology. Capacity Plus will automatically select an available time slot for the radio transmission. This allows for potentially unlimited channels or talk groups. The only restriction is the amount of available time slots.
Capacity Plus is only available for re-repeater-based systems, as it's essentially a repeater licence upgrade. Any Capacity Plus compatible radio will work on a Capacity Plus enabled repeater.
Note: Capacity Plus is repeater-based and is not available without a repeater.
Read more about Capacity Plus in our Knowledge Base.
Channel Scanning
Channel scanning enables the user to monitor a number of channels and respond when a transmission comes through. The scan feature can usually be programmed to include or exclude channels from the scan. Scanning fewer channels makes the scan faster. Should a transmission be found, your radio will stop and pause giving the operator the chance to respond to the transmission before continuing its cycle through the selected channels.
When programming your radio, it is possible to include or exclude channels from the scan, this allows for channels of highest priority to be added meaning that staff members never miss an important transmission. Channel scanning is an ideal choice in environments where updates are frequently given, this allowing for all of your members of staff to remain alert to changing conditions.
Digital hybrid radios can usually scan either or both digital and analogue channels simultaneously. This allows for an extremely flexible scan facility where the user can monitor many channels across both analogue and digital modes.
Read more about Channel Scanning in our Knowledge Base.
