The X1E is a digital two way radio from Hytera. Built to IP67 Ingres protection this means that the radio is not only completely protected against dust intrusion, but also in protected against immersion in water of 1 meter in depth for up to 30 minutes. The X1E comes as standard with a 1400mAh Li-Ion battery, this allowing for up to 12 hours of talk time whilst in digital mode. A channel capacity of 256 allows for sufficient communications between the work force, this divided in 16 zones meaning that the X1E is more than sufficient to support a medium to large sized business.

Many safety features are present on the X1E, allowing for its use in a variety of working environments. Lone worker monitors levels of activity from the radio, with a pre-set time period should the radio become inactive for this period of time an alert will be sent to other radios within the fleet. The X1E is also capable of hands free communications, VOX Voice Activation allows users to communicate without activating the PTT button should it be required within the working environment. Quick Text allows for the radio to have 25 messages pre-programmed into the radio, ideal for communications that don’t necessarily require you to speak to another person verbally.

2 Programmable buttons allow for the customisation of the X1E should it be needed, this allowing for quick access of important functions within the workplace. Although packed full of functions the X1E is extremely easy to use, this due to its size and reduced thickness from previous models. This radio is also capable of being used with a wireless headset, collar and hand microphone.

Features Explained

Lone Worker

Lone Worker is a feature found on many two way radios where it's able to send a pre-determined signal, for example a distress call or alarm, to other radios in range, Lone Worker requires some type of interaction from the radio user after a period of radio inactivity.

An example of this is the radio can be set to require the radio operator to interact with his or her radio once every 30 minutes. If they fail to do so, their radio will start making an audible sound. If there is still no interaction with his or her radio within 1 further minute, a alarm will sound to other team members to tell them a team member is not responding to Lone Worker.

The supervisor can then dispatch another team member to the non-response team member's last known location to offer assistance.

Digital Basic Privacy

Digital Basic Privacy ensures that any communications made using your two way radios are protected against the potential for eavesdropping. Although this level of protection is very basic it still offers a degree of protection against your communications being listened in on by unwelcome parties.

Basic Privacy uses a fixed key which is set when the radio is programmed. There are 255 potential keys to be chosen from, this meaning that this is still a fairly simple privacy option for your devices. In order for an eavesdropper to listen in to your conversations they would require your exact frequencies, whilst also knowing the exact key that you have used for privacy.

The main reason for purchasing licensed two way radios is the privacy that they offer over license exempt devices. When communicating in work environments where there is the potential for sensitive information to be passed over the airwaves, having at least a basic level of privacy ensures that due diligence has been taken to keep work communications in house.

Basic Digital Privacy is built-in to the Hytera X1E.

Channel Scanning

Channel Scanning

Channel scanning enables the user to monitor a number of channels and respond when a transmission comes through. The scan feature can usually be programmed to include or exclude channels from the scan. Scanning fewer channels makes the scan faster. Should a transmission be found, your radio will stop and pause giving the operator the chance to respond to the transmission before continuing its cycle through the selected channels.

When programming your radio, it is possible to include or exclude channels from the scan, this allows for channels of highest priority to be added meaning that staff members never miss an important transmission. Channel scanning is an ideal choice in environments where updates are frequently given, this allowing for all of your members of staff to remain alert to changing conditions.

Digital hybrid radios can usually scan either or both digital and analogue channels simultaneously. This allows for an extremely flexible scan facility where the user can monitor many channels across both analogue and digital modes.

Voice Activation (VOX)

VOX (voice-operated exchange), more commonly known as Voice Activation, allows the two way radio's microphone and PTT button to be activated by simply speaking into the radio.

How To Use VOX

Most two way radios' voice activation feature only works via an external VOX capable earpiece or headset. Once connected, you simply start speaking and the two way radio will automatically initiate the transmission. When there is no longer any audio coming via your earpiece or headset, the two way radio automatically disengages the PTT.

Activating VOX

Most business grade licence exempt two way radios allow activating the voice activation feature via a button combination on the radio; or by simply plugging in a vox capable earpiece or headset. However, some more complex two way radios, such as our licensed two way radios will require some reprogramming.

VOX Drawbacks

Since VOX works by listening out for audio via the attached accessory, background noise that's near to the sound of a human voice will also activate it. That means practically anything can activate the voice activation.

Two Way Radio GPS

Know where your team are, all of the time!

GPS (global positioning system) is a mechanism which a device can use a number of in-range satellites to triangulate it's position and transmit that position back to the repeater or base station. This enables the supervisor to more effectively manage team members by knowing their current location.

For more information on GPS, download this Motorola GPS information sheet.

GPS is designed for outdoor tracking. See "Indoor tracking" for indoor solutions.

Two Way Radio Man Down

Know instantly if a team member falls...

Man Down provides remote monitoring of workers by detecting if their radio is upright, or if the radio is on it's side assumes there may be a problem. Radios which support Man Down are fitted with an accelerometer (or similar device) which allows them to detect the orientation of the radio.

If somebody slips or falls, they are likely to be on their side, Man Down will automatically detect this, activate and transmit an alert to call for help from a supervisor or other team members.

This works is almost the same way as your smart phone which knows if you have it positioned portrait mode or landscape mode. See this video to see how man down works.
